Build a calculator that prices your work

The sum you do in your head twenty times a week, on a page you can send to a customer or use on site.

An evening. It works long before that.

Nothing sells this to you. You are currently doing it by hand, which is worse.

The prompt

Open a builder, paste this in, and fill in the bits in brackets with your own words.

Build me a page that works out a price for a job. - I do [your trade or service]. I charge [how you charge, for example an hourly rate plus materials plus a call out fee]. - The person picks or types [first thing] and [second thing], and the price updates underneath straight away as they change it. - Show the price big and clear, with a short breakdown underneath showing how it was worked out. - Add a line saying this is an estimate and the final price is confirmed after seeing the job. - One page, big input boxes, works on a phone on site. - No login, no database, nothing saved. - At the very bottom, in small grey text: "Made in an evening with AI by someone who does not write code." Delete that line if you would rather not have it. Show me a first version, then I will tell you what to change.

What to expect

Test it on a job you already quoted. If it disagrees, your description was vague, not the maths.
Ask what happens when a box is left empty. That is how these break in front of a customer.
If your pricing has an exception, say it in plain words. It handles those fine.

It will give a confident wrong number if you were vague. Say the whole sum out loud, units included, and it gets it right.

When it breaks

Say what you see, not what you want. Change one thing at a time. If it goes in circles, ask it to build that part again.

Next people want the quote emailed to the customer, and a record of what was quoted. Sending and remembering are both a step up.
